Airballs are designed to leak flavour at the same rate, at the same time, in the same way, as a bottom bait. When a carp comes across an Airball, it sees an identical bait on a more efficient rig. It is not a soaked piece of toast giving off danger signals. They can be punctured and mounted, boilie style, with no effect to buoyancy and you can rely on every single pop-up in each tub being the same as the last.
